Careful handling of all your belongings

Moving house is a full day of decisions, and about a third of them happen before the truck even shows up. VV Move & Go is a Sydney-based, owner-operated residential removalist team: real hourly rates, a real insured crew, and the same careful handling whether it's a studio or a five-bedroom house.

How much does residential moving cost in Sydney?

We publish our rates instead of making you ask for them. All jobs are priced hourly, not as a flat fee, so the table below is your starting point. The exact time depends on how much you're moving, access, and whether you want packing included.

Your moving house checklist

Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to pack a whole house in an afternoon (well, some people do, and we've moved them too, it's just a longer day). Here's the timeline that makes it a lot less chaotic.

6–8 weeks before

  • Declutter room by room: sell, donate, or bin what you're not taking
  • Get a rough inventory of large/heavy items
  • Book your removalist for your preferred date

2–4 weeks before

  • Start packing rooms you use least (spare room, garage, storage)
  • Organise a mail redirect and update your address for banks, subscriptions, etc.
  • Book connection/disconnection dates for electricity, gas, internet

Moving week

  • Pack everything except daily essentials
  • Confirm parking and access at both ends with your removalist
  • Pack an "essentials box": kettle, toiletries, chargers, medications

Moving day

  • Clear pathways and reserve parking before the truck arrives
  • Do a final walkthrough of every room, cupboard, and drawer
  • Keep the essentials box with you, not on the truck

How to choose a residential removalist

We'd rather you ask hard questions before you book, ours included.

  • Check they're actually insured. A real removalist carries liability cover. A truck and an Instagram page is not the same thing.
  • Get the quote in writing, itemised. If a company won't tell you what's included before moving day, that's your answer.
  • Ask about access before they do. Stairs, parking, lift bookings, tell them upfront so the quote doesn't move once the truck's already outside.
  • Compare like for like. A "just load and go" quote and a "full pack and move" quote from two different companies aren't the same conversation, even if the numbers look close.

Settling into your new home

The move doesn't really end when the truck drives off. A few things worth doing in the first week:

  • Unpack the kitchen and bathroom first. You can live out of boxes in the spare room for a week, but not without a kettle.
  • Check the smoke alarms and find the fuse box and water shut-off. Better to know now than at 11pm during an emergency.
  • Update your address with your licence, Medicare, and anywhere else that still thinks you live somewhere else.
  • Keep the flattened boxes for a week or two. You will inevitably find one more thing that needs a home.

Residential moving FAQs

How much does residential moving cost in Sydney?

Our rates start at $160/hour + GST for a 2-person crew and 25m³ truck, up to $310/hour + GST for a 4-person crew with two trucks. Most 1–3 bedroom moves fall into the $220/hour Standard tier. See our full removalist cost guide for what changes the price.

How far in advance should I book a residential removalist?

1–2 weeks ahead is usually enough for a weekday move. Weekends and end-of-month dates book out faster, so aim for 3–4 weeks ahead if your date is flexible.

Do you provide packing materials and packing services?

Yes. We offer full packing and unpacking services with proper materials, or you can pack yourself and skip that cost entirely.

Can you disassemble and reassemble furniture?

Yes, safe furniture disassembly and reassembly is included as part of our standard residential moving service.

Is my furniture insured during the move?

Yes, every move is fully insured. It's one of the first things worth checking with any removalist, including us.

What areas of Sydney do you service?

We're based in Maroubra and service the Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, North Shore, Northern Beaches, Western Sydney, Southern Sydney, and the Sydney CBD. See the full list on our suburbs we service page.

Do you handle other types of moves besides residential?

Yes, we also offer commercial and office moving, interstate removals, and same-day courier and small moves.
